Now that journey comes to an end as PSO2 leaves beta status and PSO2 Meseta for sale launches on Xbox One in North America. While the popular Action RPG has enjoyed both a closed and open beta on Microsoft's games console, we can finally call it official and begin combating Falspawn in earnest. But when can PC gamers jump in? Well, the release date has been revealed by Sega, however it comes with some disappointing news.
Only on the Microsoft Store. All those headlines you might have seen about the game launching on Steam the moment it hits PC have been left nothing more than optimistic rumors. The fantastic news is that cross-play involving Xbox One and PC players will be empowered the moment it goes on the Microsoft Store.
"Phantasy Star Online 2 altered the history of Online Action RPG's; the sci-fi narrative, characters, and gameplay has resonated with players worldwide and today we are eager to bring North American players this distinctive game -- free of charge. Our player community is the heart and soul of the game and we couldn't have done it without their ongoing support and passion."
This expands the free to play RPG to a much wider audience and I am grateful for that, but its presence on Steam will be sorely missed. At this time we must also see PSO2 drop on PlayStation 4 and maybe Nintendo's Shift as a cloud-based title.
To round out this post with a few positive vibes, here is what Sega's doing to celebrate the official launching of PSO2: Each day between April 15th-23rd, ARKS Operatives will receive a special log-in bonus when they report for duty! The Half Scape Doll is able to buy Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta sacrifice itself to animate players automatically if they become incapacitated on the battle -- a real boost when fighting the Falspawn.
