Although there are plenty of other popular original colorways that could have been included, the Top 3 stays true and pays tribute to Michael Jordan. Before MJ stepped on the hardwood and played a game for the Chicago Bulls, he was drafted 3rd overall which is where the idea came from. The shoe that started it all for the behemoth that is Jordan Brand. In 1984, Nike took a massive gamble in spending their entire endorsement budget on Michael Jordan, an unproven rookie and the third draft pick, offering him his own signature shoe line. It paid off big time. The Air Jordan 1 immediately revolutionised basketball footwear, setting a new standard of fashion and function in design, while racking up tens of thousands of dollars worth of fines (and promotion) for breaking the NBA uniform colour code in the process. The shoes moved by the busload.
